Autocloz + Generic SMTP / IMAP

Generic SMTP/IMAP connects any mailbox that speaks standard SMTP for sending and IMAP for reading, such as a self-hosted Postfix or Mailcow server, a hosting provider's mail, or a provider without a preset. On the Mailboxes page choose Custom SMTP and enter the SMTP host, port and login plus the IMAP host, port and password. Autocloz tests the SMTP login before saving, sends through your server, and polls IMAP for replies so they appear in the Unibox.

Any SMTP server

Host, port and username are yours to set, so anything that accepts SMTP AUTH works, including servers on non-standard ports.

IMAP reply sync

Give IMAP details and Autocloz reads replies from the inbox. Leave them out and the mailbox sends only.

CSV bulk connect

Connect dozens of mailboxes at once. Rows are probed eight at a time, bad rows are flagged individually, and duplicates are skipped.

Collect SMTP and IMAP settings
From your mail host, note the SMTP host, port (usually 587 with STARTTLS or 465 with TLS), username and password, and the IMAP host and port (usually 993).

Open Mailboxes → Custom SMTP
Enter the from-address and from-name, then the SMTP and IMAP details. For many mailboxes, use Bulk import via CSV instead.

Let the probe run
Autocloz logs in to the SMTP server before saving. A wrong password or host fails immediately with the server's own error.

Send and reply to a test
Confirm the send arrives and a reply shows up in the Unibox.

Common SMTP settings by host type

Most mail servers accept submission on port 587 with STARTTLS or 465 with implicit TLS; port 25 is for server-to-server traffic and is often blocked. IMAP is almost always 993 with TLS. Many shared hosts use the full email address as the username. When a host documents an app-specific password, use that rather than the account password.

When to use Custom SMTP instead of a preset

Autocloz has presets for Gmail, Outlook, Zoho Mail, Amazon SES and eleven email service providers. Presets fill in hosts, ports and username rules for you. Custom SMTP is for everything else: your own server, a regional host, or a provider whose preset has changed. If a provider's endpoint ever moves, Custom SMTP is the fallback that accepts any host and port.

Self-hosted servers need their own reputation work. Publish SPF, DKIM and DMARC, make sure reverse DNS matches, and warm the IP gradually; see IP warmup and sender reputation.

What is stored and how

Passwords are encrypted at rest and never shown back. The mailbox gets daily and hourly limits and a minimum gap between sends, which the sender enforces across every campaign using it. Bulk rows are validated one by one, so a single malformed address does not reject the whole batch.

What Generic SMTP / IMAP does not do in Autocloz

It does not configure your mail server, DNS records or reverse DNS.
It does not read replies without IMAP details.
It does not support POP3.

Troubleshooting Generic SMTP / IMAP

535 authentication failed during the probe.: Wrong username or password, or the server wants the full email as username. Some hosts also need an app-specific password.
Connection times out.: The port is blocked or wrong. Try 587 (STARTTLS) or 465 (TLS) and check the host allows external SMTP logins.
Replies never arrive.: Add IMAP host, port and password, and check the account's IMAP access is enabled.
