Autocloz + SendGrid

Twilio SendGrid connects to Autocloz as an SMTP relay mailbox. On the Mailboxes page choose Email service, pick SendGrid, and paste a SendGrid API key with Mail Send permission. You do not type a username: SendGrid's SMTP login is literally the word apikey, and Autocloz fills it in. Mail then goes out through smtp.sendgrid.net on port 587 from your verified sender. SendGrid only sends; replies go to your normal inbox, which you can also connect so they reach the Unibox.

What you can do with SendGrid

SendGrid plugs into the Email stack — connect via oauth or smtp/imap, scoped to your workspace.

Key-only setup

Paste one API key. Autocloz supplies the host, port 587 and the fixed username apikey from its SendGrid preset.

Checked before saving

Autocloz logs in to SendGrid's SMTP relay with the key before it saves the mailbox, so a bad key fails on the spot with SendGrid's own error.

Your SendGrid reputation

Sends use your SendGrid account, sender authentication and any dedicated IPs you pay SendGrid for.

Authenticate your sender in SendGrid
Complete Sender Authentication for your domain (or a single sender) in SendGrid, so it will relay mail from your from-address.

Create an API key
Settings → API Keys in SendGrid. Full Access works; a restricted key with Mail Send is enough.

Connect in Autocloz
Mailboxes → Connect mailbox → Email service → SendGrid. Enter the from-address, from-name and the key.

Set a Reply-To and limits
Point Reply-To at a mailbox you read, and set daily limits that fit your SendGrid plan.

Running several SendGrid senders

Each from-address you connect becomes its own mailbox in Autocloz with its own daily limit, hourly limit and minimum gap. A campaign can rotate across them, which spreads volume without changing anything in SendGrid. They can all share one API key. If you later restrict or rotate that key in SendGrid, update it on each mailbox, since Autocloz stores the key per mailbox rather than once per workspace.

What happens on each send

Autocloz builds the message (tracking, unsubscribe link and signature included), opens an SMTP session with smtp.sendgrid.net, logs in as apikey with your key, and hands the message over. SendGrid then delivers it. Autocloz records the send against the lead and the campaign step. It does not pull SendGrid's event webhooks, so opens and clicks come from Autocloz's own tracking rather than SendGrid's.

SendGrid for cold outreach: things to know

SendGrid's terms and shared IP pools are built around permission-based mail. Cold prospecting from a shared SendGrid IP can hurt your sender score quickly, and SendGrid may suspend accounts with high complaint rates. Many teams keep SendGrid for opted-in or transactional sends and use Gmail or Outlook mailboxes for cold email. If you do send cold mail, keep volumes low and lists verified; email verification removes bounces before they cost you.

What SendGrid does not do in Autocloz

No reply reading from SendGrid. Connect the Reply-To inbox separately.
No SendGrid event webhook or suppression-list sync.
Your super-admin can turn the SendGrid option off for a workspace, in which case it disappears from the list.

Troubleshooting SendGrid

535 Authentication failed.: The key was revoked, lacks Mail Send, or was copied incompletely. SendGrid shows a key only once, so create a new one if unsure.
"The token contains masking characters".: You copied the dotted on-screen value. Use the copy button next to the key.
Mail is accepted but never delivered.: Your from-address domain is not authenticated in SendGrid. Complete Sender Authentication.
