Close more — start freeHow the payout gets assembled
Closed revenue is deals multiplied by average deal value, and every other line on the card descends from it. With no quota in play, commission is that revenue at your base rate and nothing more.
Put a quota in and clear it, and the payout splits in two. Revenue up to the quota is paid at the base rate; only the portion beyond it earns the accelerated rate. The card lists those halves separately so you can see how much of the cheque the accelerator is genuinely responsible for. Base salary is added on top for total compensation, and attainment shows closed revenue as a percentage of the quota.
When the accelerator actually fires
The split triggers only when revenue finishes strictly past the quota. Land exactly on the number and the entire amount pays at the base rate — worth knowing before you model a month that finishes at par.
Entering a quota of zero switches the accelerator off and pays one flat rate on everything closed. That makes the quickest way to compare a tiered plan against a simple one two passes of the same numbers: once with the quota you were offered, once with zero.
Effective rate is where plan design shows
Effective rate is commission divided by closed revenue. Under quota it simply mirrors your base rate. Above quota it climbs toward the accelerated rate but never arrives, because that first slice of revenue is always settled at the lower number.
That gap is why over-performance pays less than the advertised accelerator implies, and reading effective rate next to attainment is the fastest way to see it. A plan whose accelerator sounds dramatic can still land only a point or two above base on a strong month, depending on how far past quota the rep actually finished.
Pressure-testing a plan before you sign it
Model the bad month first. Offers get compared on their best case, but the honest test is what the plan pays at half attainment, where the accelerator contributes nothing and base salary carries the whole cheque on its own.
Deal count and average deal value multiply into the same revenue figure, so change one at a time. A plan that looks generous at eight deals of a certain size can be unreachable at the deal size your market really supports, and only moving a single input tells you which of the two is doing the work. Both money fields and the payout follow the USD and INR switch, so a plan can be read in the currency it is paid in.
Commission calculator FAQ
How is sales commission calculated?
+
Commission = closed revenue × commission rate. With a quota and accelerator, revenue up to quota is paid at the base rate and revenue above quota at the accelerated rate. Total comp adds base salary on top.
What is a commission accelerator?
+
An accelerator is a higher commission rate that kicks in on revenue above quota, to reward reps for over-performance. Set quota to 0 in the calculator to pay a flat rate on all revenue.
What is a typical sales commission rate?
+
It varies widely by model, but 10% of revenue (or a blended OTE where commission is ~40–50% of on-target earnings) is a common reference point. Use your own plan's numbers for an accurate result.
Does it work in INR?
+
Yes — toggle between USD and INR for deal value, quota, salary and the commission result.
