Autocloz + Telnyx SMS
Telnyx SMS sends Autocloz text messages through your own Telnyx account. You add a Telnyx API v2 key and a from-number on the Telnyx card in Settings → Integrations (the same card as Telnyx voice), then add the number as a sender under SMS → Numbers and click Verify. SMS steps in sequences then go out through Telnyx's messaging API. Outbound works from the card alone. Inbound replies need an extra relay, explained below, because Telnyx does not post messages to Autocloz in the format it accepts. US senders also need 10DLC registration.
Good to know. Outbound Telnyx SMS works from the Settings card. Two-way threading and automatic STOP handling need inbound messages relayed to Autocloz's signed inbound endpoint.
What you can do with Telnyx SMS
Telnyx SMS plugs into the SMS stack — bring your own sms provider, scoped to your workspace.
Outbound SMS in sequences
An SMS step sends through Telnyx with your API key and from-number, after quiet-hours, DNC and consent checks pass.
STOP handling when inbound is relayed
A relayed reply of STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, QUIT, END or OPTOUT adds the number to your do-not-contact list for every channel.
One card for voice and SMS
The Telnyx key you saved for calling also covers SMS. A Messaging Profile ID is optional.
How to connect Telnyx SMS
Bring your own SMS provider — you keep control of the account, the spend and the data boundary.
- 1
Enable messaging in Telnyx
Create a Messaging Profile, assign your number to it, and complete 10DLC or toll-free registration for US traffic.
- 2
Fill in the Telnyx card
Settings → Integrations → SMS tab → Telnyx: API key, default from-number, and optionally the Messaging profile ID.
- 3
Add the sender
Go to SMS → Numbers, add the number with provider Telnyx, set its daily and hourly limits, and click Verify.
- 4
Send a test
Put your own mobile in a one-step SMS sequence and check the text arrives within quiet hours rules.
Telnyx SMS fields on the card
The Telnyx card is shared by voice and SMS. For SMS only three fields matter.
- API key: the Mission Control API v2 key (starts KEY).
- Default from-number: the E.164 number that sends texts when the sender has none of its own.
- Messaging profile ID: optional; the profile your number is assigned to in Telnyx.
Outbound and inbound are separate paths
Outbound: the Telnyx SMS adapter posts each message to Telnyx with your key and from-number. That is all built in. Inbound: Autocloz accepts inbound texts at one endpoint, /conversations/_inbound, which expects a small JSON body and an HMAC signature made with your deployment's inbound secret. Telnyx posts its own message.received event format and cannot sign it that way, and Autocloz's Telnyx webhook only processes call events. So replies reach the Unibox only if a relay receives Telnyx's webhook, reshapes it and signs it.
Once a reply arrives through that endpoint, Autocloz finds the workspace by the receiving number, threads the message with the lead, marks the lead as replied, runs STOP detection, and records consent.
Compliance defaults for Telnyx SMS senders
New SMS senders are created with quiet hours of 20:00 to 09:00 in the sender's timezone, following TCPA practice. SMS templates are capped at 320 characters, two GSM-7 segments, so a campaign cannot queue a message carriers would split or truncate. Numbers on your DNC list are skipped on every channel.
What Telnyx SMS does not do in Autocloz
- No native inbound: replies need a relay.
- No MMS media management in the UI.
- No 10DLC brand or campaign registration inside Autocloz; do it in Telnyx.
Troubleshooting Telnyx SMS
- Sends fail with "Telnyx SMS api_key + from_handle required".
- The Telnyx card is missing the API key or default from-number.
- Messages are rejected by carriers.
- The number is not attached to a registered 10DLC campaign. Finish registration in Telnyx.
- Replies never show up.
- Inbound needs a relay to Autocloz's signed endpoint; pointing Telnyx's messaging webhook at the voice webhook does not deliver texts.
Part of the SMS stack
Telnyx SMS is one of the providers behind the SMS channel. All providers share the same two-way threading, STOP-keyword DNC and quiet-hours enforcement.
